For whom you ask?

Not a long time ago, my pope got clipped uttering a gay slur. We could all probably guess what it was on the first try. Of course the liberal media jumped all over it. The secularists and the devout atheists probably had a field day over it, forgetting probably his very public acceptance of gays into the Catholic church. Still, how can the pope, a man so educated, a Jesuit–Jesuit!– commit such a hate speech?  The educated just don’t do that.

I’m reminded of this tired trope by a dear friend of mine. At least I think we’re still friends after I tell her who I voted for. She tells me, The educated are going to vote for Harris.

I used to believe this. Like, a lot. The educated vote Democrat, while village idiots in loud diesel-spewing trucks–well, they vote Republican. Blacks and browns? Yellow? Surely they’re going to vote Democrat, too, hello!

Fuck’s changed, then?  What’s happened today that so many “educated” now are voting for the “bombastic,” “fascist,” “racist,” “sexist” candidate? So many black voters and brown ones, too . Yellow. Women.  Women! Is it in the drinking water?

I’m one of those voters. Today, very hesitantly, I voted for Donald Trump. While I’m not about to change my party affiliation just yet, I’m also not going to help my party, the party who’s got smoke coming out of its ears and having panic attacks, figure out why or how this is even a race in the first place.  They’re educated enough to know why.

But the pope might be a good place to start.
